General Information
Atso Almila is a composer, conductor, professor of Conducting and Orchestra Schooling at The Sibelius Academy of the University of Arts since 2013, retired in 2019. Jorma Panula’s student at the Sibelius-Academy 1974-77. Almila has been working as Music Chief of the Finnish National Theatre, Conductor of Tampere Philharmonic, of Joensuu Orchestra, of Kuopio Orchestra and principal guest of Seinäjoki Orchestra. Furthermore, he usually teaches Master Classes in Finland and the Czech Republic. He has also been teaching in Ireland, China, Norway and Sweden. His rich artistic experience and his special pedagogical charisma make him one of the most requested and admired Conducting teachers in the world in recent years.
The Masterclass
The masterclass will take place in the Real Coliseo Carlos III of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a beautiful historic theater from the 18th century (see https://www.comunidad.madrid/centros/real-coliseo-carlos-iii-san-lorenzo-escorial).
Participation
The masterclass will be open for 8 active participants, selected by maestro Almila. Those selected will conduct the Camerata Antonio Soler (in string orchestra format) for 25-30 minutes every day and all the participants will conduct at the final concert, to be held at the Real Coliseo Carlos III
